WebSockets Quick Guide

We create an HTTP server using http.createServer() and initialize Socket.IO with the created server using socketIO(server). There were a lot of loopholes in long polling  —  header overhead, latency, timeouts, caching, and so on. The use of a sub-protocol is optional but either way client and
server will need to agree on some protocol that defines message content. If you allow cross-origin requests (see Section 26.2.6, “Configuring allowed origins”), the SockJS protocol
uses CORS for cross-domain support in the XHR streaming and polling transports. Therefore
CORS headers are added automatically unless the presence of CORS headers in the response
is detected. So if an application is already configured to provide CORS support, e.g.
through a Servlet Filter, Spring’s SockJsService will skip this part. Review the
sockjs-client page and the list of
transport types supported by browser.
